This year Prague took the number 3 spot in the Post Office’s annual holiday costs barometer, making it one of the cheapest places to visit in 2013. It’s easy to reach, with flights from Jet2, so if you’re planning on travelling to Europe you should definitely add Prague to your checklist.
With the majestic castle poised above the cobbled streets and art galleries below, every member of the family is sure to fall in love with Prague’s beauty.
If you’re travelling with children it’s unlikely that they’ll be interested in visiting historic sites and museums, no matter how beautiful they may be. Thankfully there are lots of great kid friendly things to do in Prague.
The Toy Museum
You simply can’t visit Prague without hitting the UNESCO heritage site that is Prague Castle. While mum and dad soak up the history, kids will be equally interested by the toy museum. It’s the second largest toy museum in the world, full of traditional wooden toys. Best of all, children under the age of 15 get in for free.
The GUD Art Gallery
Prague is known for its art galleries, and this one is especially designed to give children aged between 2 and 13 a great experience. The exhibits are all tactile, and kids are invited to get up and touch the art work. They also have the chance to contribute, becoming co-creators of their very own masterpiece.
Vytopna Railway Restaurant
There are lots of kid friendly Prague hotels, and thankfully if you want to enjoy an evening out there are kid friendly restaurants too. The Vytopna Railway Restaurant is a favourite for families visiting Prague due to the 400 meter miniature railway which scoots around the restaurant delivering drinks. The food is also very good, and there’s a children’s menu for fussy eaters.
Prague Zoo
The most visited zoo in the Czech Republic, Prague Zoo boasts over 5000 animals- including a baby Orangutan. The zoo was named as one of the world’s best zoos by Forbes in 2007, and with so many animals and beautiful greenery it’s not hard to see why. Your children will love seeing large African mammals whilst learning about conservation efforts.
Hrad Zabavy Fun Castle
If the weather takes a turn for the worse, head to the old town. You’ll find Hrad Zabavy inside one of Prague’s largest shopping centers, the Palladium. The Fun Castle is decorated to look like medieval Prague and is chock full of fun things for young children. There’s soft play, trampolines, game centers, and a snack bar for refuelling. There’s even a specially adapted area for under-three’s, so if you’re travelling with an infant you can keep them occupied and entertained.
