Tips for Keeping Families Cold and Flu Free #lysolcoldandflu

It is starting to get cold and has been raining for the past two days where I live. The cold chill in the air, crisp chilly breeze, and rain bring on the thoughts and preparation for winter and all the sicknesses that come with it.

My son tends to get colds and the flu the worse, so there are precautions I take to try and prevent and minimize my kids getting it and spreading it throughout my family. Here are a few tips that I use.

Tips For Being Cold and Flu Free:

  • Take vitamins or vitamin supplement daily.
  • Wash hands. I remind my kids to wash their hands all the time. I include a small hand sanitizer in their lunch pails, in my car, in my purse, and clip one on their back packs.
  • Flu Shots. I have already had my son get his flu shot. As the flu season gets close and starts effecting families, it seems like it is harder to get in to get flu shots. It is great to be prepared and get them as soon as you can.
  • Remind kids to not put their hands in their mouth.
  • Suggest to kids to cough in their elbow/bend of their arm and NOT their hands. It is important they are are covering their cough to reduce the airborne spread of the cold. By coughing in their arm, they are blocking the germs from going airborne and reducing the chance to spreading a sickness by the touch of hands or objects.
  • When I feel like a potential cold is coming on, I like to give my kids airborne or Emergen-C to help reduce the affects and reduce the longevity of the sickness.
  • Avoid populated areas when you can during cold season. Meaning, I like to not go to big kid gyms, jumping gym, or any other area that is enclosed where kids are playing and touching everything.
  • Tissue in the backpack. I have travel tissue in my kid’s backpacks, my car, my purse, and full size in all my bathrooms, to help make sure my kids are wiping their noses with Kleenex and not their hand or clothes.

These are just a few things that I do DAILY to help reduce, minimize and potentially eliminate the spread of sicknesses in my household.  Since our kids are in school, all we can to do as parents is try our hardest to be prepared and try to minimize the spread and effects.
