THQ uDraw Your City $15,000 Prize Package Contest

About my city.

I absoultely LOVE the city I live in (Carlsbad, CA). We are 6 minutes from the beach (beautiful clean beach, where you can see dolphins and enjoy the wonderful weather), 30 minutes from Downtown San Diego Zoo & Sea World, 1.5 hours from Disneyland, 5 minutes from Legoland (Same town), and so much more. The crisp light breeze always keeps it cool and beautiful. I enjoy the short drive to the beach, spectacular wildlife, I savor the soft sand as it caresses my feet, I love the sweet sounds of laughter from my children as they play, and the gorgeous view of hot air balloons and sailboats are breath taking.

For my entry into the THQ uDraw Your City Contest, I would draw a picture of of the sunset setting at my local beach. I would draw an area of the beach where there are big dark gray boulder rocks.  I’d add my kids  smiling as they sat on the rocks, there would be waves gently crashing on the rocks, while the sun started to set leaving a light yellowish orange glow in the horizon just below the crystal blue sky. I feel like this would capture the love I have for my town, how kid friendly it is, and how gorgeous it is (scenery and weather).

My 14 year old said she would like to draw herself eating frozen yogurt on the beach, with the ocean in the background, a sea turtle in the sand next to her and a clear blue sky. Hayli said that she felt the frozen yogurt is a big thing in our town and it would really express how warm the weather is, popular frozen yogurt is in the community, and a sense of happiness.

My kids love art. I love everything they create and cherish it. My 3 kids love to draw, paint, creature art pieces (mosaic, tissue paper, finger paint, clay art, etc). I think the uDraw contest is not only fun, but gives kids a chance to be creative and discover a new love for art and their community.

uDraw Your City has launched a nationwide art contest, in which young artists  ages 6 to 17 years old have the opportunity to share what they love most about their city through art.  Contestants can use a uDraw GameTablet to illustrate what they love most about their city – though entries may also be created in traditional print formats using any artistic medium.
THQ and uDraw invite kids to embrace their artistic inspiration and to share “what your city, your town, or your community means to you. Whether it is the ” The swaying of the trees out in a quiet meadow, a drawing of  friends at the park, or a stencil of your favorite local area to play”, share it in art for a chance to win.
The submission period runs through October 31, and the grand prize winner will receive a package worth more than $15,000, including a uDraw, and a $10,000 cash prize that the winner can choose to apply toward a college scholarship.  Additionally, THQ will donate $10,000 to the winner’s school of choice to help support its art program. Entries are judged on artistic merit (based on age group), creativity, and adherence to the overall city theme.

The THQ uDraw Your City contest ends October 31, 2011.
