A challenging part of my day would definitely have to be diaper changing time. Whether it be me having to chase my son down to change him, my son hiding from me, him wiggling around so I can’t get the diaper on or make a mess, getting kicked, or having his lil legs squirm while I change him, it is a tough time. We have nicknamed our lil’ man “Shrimp” and “Taz” (since he never stops moving). So here are a few things I do to help and a few things I have learned and need to try myself.
1) Make changing time fun. Make it a game or making it a challenge. For example who can change the baby the fastest. See if your little squirer can change their baby faster than you can change them.
2) Buy Huggies Little Movers Slip-On Diapers. This will make changing so easy. All you have to do is catch your child, slip on the Huggies Little Movers, and then let your child go back to playing as usual. Fast, safe, and effective way to change and avoid crying or kicking.
3) Having siblings help you entertain your child while changing.
4)Offer rewards. This can be as simple as a sticker and as big as a potty changing treat (fruit snack or other fun treat).
5) Have a special toy the can play with while they are getting changed. Make it fun, special, and enjoyable. Maybe even use the toy only when changing.
6) Have something your child can do or hold while getting changed. For example one of those mesh pops that stores frozen fruit kids can suck on.
7) Sing a special song to your kids or tell them a fun story.
One thing that has helped me THE MOST, is learning to change my son while he plays (standing up). I am not making him stop what he is doing and I have learned to be fast, which makes me and him happy. Changing our lil’ ones doesn’t have to be hard or un-enjoyable. They are only little and in diapers for a short time. Let’s make it fun, special, and enjoy it while it while we can.

Can’t you just strap them to the changing table?
OK, OK, OK…of course I’m joking. I couldn’t resist. LOL.
For me, I recall usually breaking into tears. But that’s because I had four kids under the age of five. So while I was changing a squirming baby, one was usually screaming, another was writing on the wall with a crayon, and the other was scaling the kitchen cabinets to get into the snack cabinet. Ohhhh, how I miss those days.
