Lesson Learned~ Say NO to Go Daddy

After a typical day, spending the morning playing with my kids and then meeting up with a close friend for lunch. I would then returned home to get a message from another close friend mentioning “Have you seen your site?”. I looked to see my site was down.

WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED?

Then just as fast as I said “what could have happened” I remembered my domain was going to expire in July (thanks to Blog Grade). What day would it expire? You would naturally think that a company would let you know that it is getting close to renewal right? YEP me too!!!

So I rushed to find WHO was my domain host. Keep in mind I bought my domain through blogger (MISTAKE) and they did not let me know who the host was (I had to track it down in order to move to WordPress). So long story short I go to my old google email and find an email that says “Your domain expired July 14th”. WELL that was nice of them to tell me the day it expires that it is canceled instead of renew now before your expiration date.

My site ended up going down all day without me knowing. Then after finding out what happened and then paying to renew service for a year (I will be transferring), I had to wait for my site to show up again. :(

Moral of the story? DO NOT BUY YOUR DOMAIN THROUGH BLOGGER!!

Know who your domain company is (Don’t go through blogger to get a domain). I have heard so many bad things about GoDaddy and their service. I finally had to learn myself, the hard way. :(

For those of you who love GoDaddy, I am so glad you are having a great experience and wish you the best. For me, I wish they would have sent me a renewal notice like most companies do. I just think that is not a great way to run a business. By telling customers they are canceled on the day they expire without notice. For me, that isn’t a great way to keep me coming back, which I won’t be.

Bye GoDaddy!! Lesson Learned.

That’s very weird. And obviously NOT good. Mine is through GoDaddy as well, but they did send me a reminder. Guess they are pretty random over there.

My husband had heard bad things about Go Daddy, plus I don’t like their ads (I think they exploit women), so I used hover.com to buy my domain name. So far, so good, but I haven’t had to renew it yet.

So, where are you heading to? I heard HostGator is good? It seems like no one is really happy with any of their domain hosts. Guess we have no choice but to be reliant on these companies.

To be honest, I have 2 other domains (for my blanket site) and my hubby’s domain (his biz site) all hosted at Merchant Moms. So I will have them host this domain too. The thing I like about Merchant Moms is they send me an email saying it is coming up for renewal AND they just charge my credit card so I never have to worry about my sites/domains going down. If there is a problem, their customer service is WONDERFUL, FAST, and FRIENDLY. Which is perfect for me.

OUCH I hope that doesn’t happen to me on Go Daddy… I bought my domain thru a gal that did my blog design and better check how I will renew next year. :o ( thanks for the head’s up….

That is awful. I think it was because you bought it through blogger, seriously. I have tons and I mean tons of stuff with GoDaddy. They start sending me renewal notices about 90 days out for anything that is going to expire. I also have my credit card on file and everything set to automatically renew in case I do forget. ( Don’t hate me) But I Love Go Daddy. I never had any down time with them and they even have called a few times when I my credit card expired to let me know before an auto renewal kicked it. I am just so glad that you got it renewed before some one stole/bought your domain name.

Honestly I think this is a separate thing with Go Daddy and Google, because I couldn’t login when going straight to Go Daddy. I had to go through Google Apps to get to the correct Go Daddy Login. It looked weird and was different then login in on their main page.

I purchased all my domain names through GoDaddy and have never had any problems with them. However, I don’t host them there. I did that for about 4 months and that was enough. Wasn’t happy with my downtime.

I use HostGator for all my sites and have never been disappointed with the service. If I ever purchase another domain name, I’ll probably do it through GoDaddy, but will only use HostGator to host them.

I wish you all the luck and uptime in the world. LOL

It sounds like people who are purchasing their domains directly through GoDaddy are not having problems. My big issue was going through Blogger. It was hard to find where my domain was. I had to search, then the only way to reach the correct domain login page I had to find a password to Google Apps (different than blog or email) then click on domain which lead me to a GoDaddy Domain page. It was a lot of frustrating work. :( I am so glad it is working good for you.

I also used Go Daddy and had terrible customer service. I couldn’t get anyone to help me. Now I use Bluehost.com and love them so far!

    Good luck :)
