SEO~Search Engine Optimization Part 1

SEO
Also known as Search Engine Optimization
I have a blog and my husband has a business website, I thought it would be great to do a little research to see how we could increase our SEO without paying big companies over $1,000. Yes this is the around the price that some of the companies we called were asking. If you have a website you have probably heard of SEO and that it is important. What you may not know or understand like many of us is WHAT IS IT? and HOW DO I IMPROVE MINE?

How it affects websites like mine or my husbands:
My husband recently set up a website for his business. We were looking and noticed that his site is coming up in the google search engine on page 7.
What does that mean? That means his website isn’t being seen much, which ultimately isn’t great for potential business. When people are searching for for companies that offer his services, they are more likely to visit sites that they see on the first page and maybe the second.  I am guilty of this. I figure it is on the front page and fast to get to, I’ll go with this one.
For those of us who have blogs, we know that it is traffic and exposure that helps build our rank, exposure, followers, potential business partnerships, and more.
So how do we get our websites (url) seen more?
With optimizing our SEO.
Search Engine Optimization.
This is what helps search engines and people find us.

Now I know what it is and kinda why it is important. What can I do?
Remember there are many things to do to optimize your SEO. This isn’t something you can do one day and then your site is going to be running 100% (I wish it were). It is something you need to be aware of and take an active role in keeping it up to date.
Here are just some of the key things I found when trying to optimize your website SEO.
  • Page Titles
  • Descriptive Meta Tags
  • Website Structure
  • Easy Navigation
  • QUALITY
  • Optimize Use of Tags & Images
  • Reduce Spam
  • Be Mobile Friendly
  • Promote
~I will try and give you information on each area, an example, and then in the end provide resources~
    ?Page Titles
Make sure your page titles accurately describes each page. Try to use short descriptive words or a short phrase that effectively describes your business or what information can be found each page of your site.

A few things we can do:
*Include what your site features in your website name. Example: I could have called my site Little Yayas Family Reviews or Little Yayas Family Resources.
Both are short and says basically what I strive to offer.
Most of us have our urls and website names already, so this doesn’t really help us at this point unless moving to a private domain.
*About page: Provide a brief description about you and about what your website has to offer.
I have an About Me section, which I should just take off the ME and leave it as About.
Then write on that page about myself and about my site.
    * Use Effective Titles in Navigation Bars: I have a section in my navigation bar titled “Resources”. What I should have called it is “Blogger Resources”, because this is more detailed and betterdescribes the type of information/resources you might find when visiting that link.
    “Resources” might be too vague??
*Edit Post Titles or Make future titles more effective: We could go through all of our old posts and edit titles that are too long or not as effective. That might take a lot of time, but we can be aware and focus on future titles.

    Overall:

USE BRIEF, POWERFUL, & DESCRIPTIVE WORDS for page titles to effectively describe content found on each page.

I know it is funny. It is all about the wording (key words).
