I have loved Peeps Candy for as long as I can remember. It is the one candy that I associate with Easter each year for as long as I can remember. There is just something about character marshmallows coated in colored sugar that is so YUMMY to me. Each year when I was little, I looked forward to Easter for the Peeps candy the Easter Bunny would bring. You can only imagine my excitement when I found Peeps wasn’t just for Easter. They now have Peeps for Valentine’s Day, Christmas, Halloween, and more. There are hearts, chicks, bunnies, trees, pumpkins, ghosts, snowmen, and other yummy designs to choose from.
One Peeps memory that I will never forget is when my oldest (almost 14) was almost 2. After she went out searching for her Easter eggs, she found her Easter basket (bucket) full of purple Peeps chicks (and other yummy treats). She got into the bucket with her pretty Easter dress and sat in it eating her purple Peeps Chicks. It was so funny to see her little head with bonnet poking out of this big bucket eating Peeps. The purple sugar was all over her lips, hands, and in her hair. She was so sticky from all the marshmallow, but was so happy and content. The plastic basket grass became stuck in her hands. My whole family and I couldn’t help but laugh at how cute she looked. It was definitely entertaining and we just let her make the biggest mess she could and we waited until she was finished licking the marshmallows off her fingers.
This is a memory that I will always cherish and the first one that always comes to my mind when I think of Peeps.
Now it is a family tradition of ours to have Peeps candy treats included in our kids Easter Baskets each year (and in their Christmas stockings). It is the one treat at Easter that my kids would really notice if it was missing from their baskets. I love how the Easter Bunny always seems to remember to include me when he is passing out the Peeps Chicks and Bunnies each year. YES! Still to this day I am hooked on Peeps characters and my hubby (dentist) is completely fine with it (as long as we all brush after).
So this year in my kids Easter Baskets and the treat baskets we make for friends and family, the kiddos will find Peeps.
