If you are looking for an extremely sweet story to show your children that there is no such thing as perfect, Percy the Perfectly Imperfect Chicken is the story for you.
This beautifully illustrated children’s story begins when Percy hatches and is lead to believe from the other chickens that he is not perfect. His mother tries to hide him so that the others won’t hurt him for being different. He then grows up and challenges the other chickens in the flock. He points out that everyone has flaws and that is no reason to out cast them.
I love how this story is written in rhythm, has amazing illustrations, teaches inner beauty, that there is no such thing as perfect, teach the importance of patience, and to not give up. It also teaches not to look at differences, because we are all special. These are very important qualities that I want to instill in my kids and I love how Rick the author and Daniel the illustrator bring this to life in
Percy The Perfectly Imperfect Chicken. Alyssa loves this story and continues to ask me to reread it to her.
Not only is this story truly inspirational, but so is the author Rick Rieser. He was a CEO of a large organization that served children with moderate to severe mental health issues. He wasn’t happy working in an office and not directly with children, so listened to God’s call to write children’s books and create programs for early intervention. Percy Learning Farms is the tool he uses to work with children in Ohio and is expanding beyond. He enjoys his downsized staff load from 400 to just his nine year old daughter. And then there is my favorite Rick has also developed resources that emphasizes and focuses on children’s inner strength and potential that exists in every child.
Percy The Perfectly Imperfect Chicken is also available for children who are hearing impaired.
